ZOLPIDEM TARTRATE
Zolpidem Tartrate (or just Zolpidem)
is a sedative-hypnotic drug indicated for the short-term
treatment of insomnia. Sleep problems are usually temporary
and require medication for a week or two, not longer. Not
sleeping well can lead to a number of problems in your daily
life. If your sleep disoredr lasts longer and you need this
medicine longer than than 7 to 10 days be sure to check with
your doctor. Recent studies associate long lasting lack of
sleep with serious health problems such as an increased risk
of obesity, cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
It is recommended by manufacturers that alcohol
never be consumed while under treatment with Zolpidem
or other sleeping tablets. Alcohol can significantly increase
the side effects of Zolpidem Tartrate or any other sleep medication.
Zolpidem tartrate works very quickly.
Take your prescribed dose before going to bed, exactly as
instructed by your doctor. Take Zolpidem tartrate only as
needed and ever double the dose. Store the medicine at room
temperature and protect from extreme heat.
Recommended dosage for Zolpidem
ADULTS
The recommended dosage for adults is 10 milligrams right before
bedtime. Your doctor will prescribe a smaller dose if you
are likely to be sensitive to the drug or have a liver problem.
Never take more than 10 milligrams of Ambien per day.
CHILDREN
Safety and effectiveness have not been established in children
below the age of 18.
OLDER ADULTS
Because older people and those in a weakened condition may
be more sensitive to Ambien's effects, the recommended starting
dosage is 5 milligrams just before bedtime.
Overdosage
People who take too much Ambien may become excessively sleepy
or even go into a light coma. The symptoms of overdose are
more severe if the person is also taking other drugs that
depress the central nervous system. Some cases of multiple
overdose have been fatal.
If you suspect an overdose, seek medical attention immediately.
